Turn-by-turn navigation using Apple Carplay is finally available in the Philippines. This feature was missing for more than a decade since Apple Maps’ launch back in 2012, and this made me pick Waze as my main navigation app. I accidentally discovered the update almost two weeks ago while I was fiddling with CarPlay while I was waiting for my son to be dismissed from school. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that CarPlay finally supports turn-by-turn navigation and it also works with Siri. Well, some of the time. Siri has a hard time understanding my accent.

So far, using Apple Maps in CarPlay is going well. I don’t remember encountering any issues aside from CarPlay being slow to respond. One thing that bothers me though is the extra step or extra button press it takes to set a destination. Other than that complaint, turn-by-turn navigation using Apple Maps in Carplay has been solid.
